Over time our computers even Mac also slow down. You get depressed, frustrated and you think to splash out on extra RAM. You may think about buying a new machine.
If you follow some easy tweaks, it will boost your Mac performance. The most important thing here you don’t have to pay a single penny for this.
Upgrade macOS and all software
A myth we trust that upgrades always slow down your machine. And mostly we believe that operating system upgrades will slow down our machine. This is not true. Always the upgradations do more good than harm. Mainly operating system up-gradation comes with bug fixes, patches. Also improvements in the speed increasing issues.
So to speed up your Mac, first you upgrade your operating system. Before starting updating your machine make sure 2 things first. Number one your machine is connected with power and the number two back up your Mac. If you don’t know how to back up your pc, see here.
To update your Mac operating system firstly click of the Apple menu located in the top-left corner of your window.
Then click on about this Mac. And select the Software Updates
If you see the button with the text of Upgrade now, then you are confirming that you need to upgrade your software. Click on it. Again I am remembering you that it will take some time. Never unplug the power line.
Removing Startup Items
Secondly, I will say to stop the non-necessary startup background processes. While you start your machine, every time some unnecessary background processes also startups. Some people totally unaware of this and even don’t know which background processes start while their machine starts.
To stop the unnecessary startup’s apps go to system preferences. Then click on the Users & Groups.
Click on Login Items as shown in the image
Now see I want to stop the BitTorrent from my startup apps. Firstly I have to select the apps
Then clicking on the minus icon the app will be removed
Free Up Hard Disk Space
The machine performance may rapidly decrease if your storage drive reaches its capacity. Large file have negative impact on your hard disk performance. Majority of the Mac specialists says to keep at least 25 percent free of your Mac. I personally say to increase it at least 30 percent.
You can check easily the amount and the percentage of your Mac storage.
Click on the left-top bar Apple menu
Then about this Mac
By clicking on the storage you will see the real scenario of your hard drive.
Follow the bellow steps to free up your hard drive space
Empty the trash
The apps you are not using uninstall them.
Delete the larger files
Must delete iTunes files and iOS backups
Store your Desktop and Documents folders in the cloud.
Remove Unnecessary Widgets
Having bunch of widgets running in the background can be attractive to see your desktop but have a bad impact on your Mac’s speed. To remove the unnecessary widgets
Click on the Notification Centre located on the top-right corner of the screen.
Click on today tab. Click on the edit icon, then delete the widget which is not necessary for you by the (-) icon.
